Lagos State Cooperative College (LASCOCO) has been described as a visionary step in making Lagos a 21st-century economy with the building of internationally competitive entrepreneurs from the grassroots.
This was disclosed by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who was represented by the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Commerce, Cooperative, Trade and Investment, Mrs Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, at the second convocation ceremony of the institution held recently at the school campus in Lagos. He said, “The College is another step closer to our dream of a 21st Century economy by building globally competitive enterprises from the grassroots up”.
According to him, the convocation is more than a celebration of academic achievements. It is a reaffirmation of the critical role that cooperative education and management play in nurturing nano, micro, small, and medium enterprises – the lifeblood of our economy.
The Governor, therefore, enjoined the graduands to deploy all the skills and knowledge they have acquired over the years into nurturing, developing and ensuring the survival of Small and Nano and cooperatives in the community.
Earlier, the Provost of LASCOCO, Akorede Ojomu, reeling out the achievements of the college over the past years, hinged on the unwavering support of the Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the visionary leadership of the Governing Council that has helped drive the college.
“We owe our transformation to a leadership that dared to innovate and invest in education. Under the Governor’s watch, this College has not only grown, but thrived as a beacon of cooperative advancement,” he added.
The Chairman of LASCOCO’s Governing Council, Oyebowale Rafiu Raji, charged the graduating students to become “architects of Nigeria’s cooperative and enterprise future.”
“This convocation is not just a celebration of academic achievement but also a celebration of the relevance of cooperative education as a catalyst for inclusive economic development, social progress, and institutional strengthening,” he said.
He announced a new five-year strategic plan (2025–2029) focused on digital cooperative education, policy advocacy, and enterprise incubation under the LASMECO initiative.
To the graduates, “Go forward with courage. Build your dreams with conviction. Serve your communities with excellence. And wherever you go, remember – you carry with you the promise of this College and the pride of Lagos State,” he concluded.
